PROGRAMS
SSC provides as many services as possible under one roof. If the SSC doesn’t have a service, they know where to find it and track down the information before the client leaves. Though most closely associated with bilingual vocational training, the SSC is a multi-service provider. If individuals do not have a place to live and a place to get food the SSC is able to support them, plugging them into the necessary channels. The Social Service programs offered by SSC range from crisis intervention, case management and ongoing support to language translation and connecting individuals with services outside the Center.
If someone wants to return to school or enroll in vocational training the SSC will help them assess their skills and interests and develop a career plan, as well as assist with employment leads. For those with an interest in self employment, the Center has a Latino Business start-up program, run in collaboration with Central CT State University’s Institute for Technology and Business Development.
Although its focus is on Spanish speakers, the SSC maintains a multicultural environment. Located in the diverse community of New Britain, the Center takes advantage to bring in volunteers from other cultures. Currently four languages, French, Polish, Spanish and English, are spoken by staff and volunteers at the SSC.
