LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & ADVOCACY
All staff, volunteers, interns and clients are encouraged to utilize the SSC to achieve their greatest opportunity for growth by attending programs and meetings or by taking on new responsibilities at the Center. When outside training opportunities present themselves, SSC encourages the staff, volunteers and students to participate and gain new skills. We have participated in numerous parent leadership trainings, social services trainings and diversity & undoing racism workshops.
As a multi-service provider to low-income Latinos and others in the Greater New Britain area the SSC staff and volunteer group meets with other groups to discuss and advocate on issues that affect our clients, such as our local education system, housing issues and immigrant issues like the Dream Act, to name a few. We are also an active member of CAUSA, the CT Association of United Spanish Action, and participate in statewide actions that will benefit the Latino community of Connecticut.
